Striker Joe McGee will go straight back in to the Workington Reds line-up tonight as they take on Clitheroe in their re-arranged League Cup tie.

McGee has been thwarted by the weather in his bid to serve the last match of a suspension but Reds’ victory at Grantham on Saturday was his final outing on the sidelines and boss Derek Townsley is keen to have him back in action.

“Joe hasn’t been able to play for three or four weeks now so he definitely needs a game and he will go straight in,” confirmed Townsley.

The boss, however, will be without another attacking option in Scott Allison, who will serve the second of a three-match ban tonight.

Townsley admitted he may use the game to give more time to some of his promising youngsters but added that they were still going all out to win the tie at Borough Park, ko 7.45pm.

Ex-Manchester City junior player Kingsley Grandison and winger Rob McCartney will both look to feature against Clitheroe.

“This game might be an opportunity to give one or two players a rest and get a couple of younger lads involved,” said Townsley.

“Kingsley will come back in along with Rob McCartney. “Whether I can give them both a start, I will have to wait and see but I do hope that they will both play a good part of the game, whether it be starting or coming off the bench.

“These are the games I can do that. There is a bit more at stake in the league and you want to put your strongest team out but at the same time we want to win this game as well and we won’t be taking it lightly.”

Josh Calvert and Matty Tymon are still out injured for the clash, while Rob Wilson is cup tied.
