Workington Reds made it an FA Cup double at the weekend when their ladies team also made it through to the third round of qualifying.

The women hosted Birtley Town in the second qualifying round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup and ran out 2-1 winners.

Manager Dean Finlay was delighted and says it is fantastic news all round for the club.

"It has been absolutely brilliant and great for the club to have two teams through," said Finlay, who took over the reins at the start of the season.

"I have found it really enjoyable as we are playing some really good football this season."

Hannah Geen opened the scoring for the ladies after 35 minutes when she got on to the end of a good pass from winger Anna Williams.

And Chelsie Browbank made it 2-0 in the second half. Holly Redmond made a lovely run down the right hand wing and put in a superb back pass to Browbank.

It was then down to the former Carlisle player and she made no mistake with a curling shot into the bottom corner, leaving the keeper with no chance.

Finlay praised the recent form of Geen and Browbank, along with centre midfielder Chloe Henderson and defender Becky Scott.

But there was special mention for Reds keeper Laura Miller who made several brilliant saved to keep her team in the hat.

Reds ladies have been handed a home draw in the next round as they will host RACA Tynedale at Borough Park on Sunday, October 9.

This Sunday Reds Ladies will be in League Cup action away from home as they take on Sir Tom Finney.
