Derek Townsley didn't pull any punches in his post-match interview following Workington’s miserable 5-0 defeat at Stourbridge.

The Reds manager said: “It was embarrassing. You have to make tackles out there and we were just too nice, standing-off them.

“I'm the first to praise them when they’ve done well, as I did after an excellent win in mid-week over Spennymoor.

“But this was like watching a different team. We were awful. I don’t feel sorry for anybody in the dressing room.

“I just feel sorry for the supporters who have made the long trip, only to see a performance like that. It wasn’t good enough.”

The 5-0 thrashing wasn't the only concern for Townsley and his management colleagues Dave Hewson and Lee Andrews.

Centre-back Sam Smith had to go off after 17 minutes with an ankle injury, which will keep him out of tomorrow’s League Cup tie at home to Ramsbottom.

Then, midst the mayhem, which produced five goals in the first 27 minutes, Conor Tinnion was booked for a foul.

That's his fifth yellow card of the season, which means he will be banned for Saturday’s tasty league encounter with Hednesford.

“We were hoping Conor could get through Saturday’s game without a booking and we would rest him tomorrow," said Townsley.

"There's an amnesty on bookings at the end of the month, so all yellow cards are wiped clean."

Under normal circumstances, Reds would have automatically brought in some of their fringe players who have been short of games, when they host Division One side Ramsbottom.

But the poor effort at Stourbridge means the Reds management trio will consider all their options.

“We have to think things over before we decide what to do,” he added.

Anthony Wright, who is spending time with Carlisle City to get some valuable game time, is likely to start the cup tie. He made his City debut in a 2-1 win at Daisy Hill on Saturday.

James Earl will also be available again after suspension.
