Workington Reds defender Kyle May admitted his frustration after their game with Salford City was postponed yesterday.

May, pictured, was part of the team that was thrashed 4-1 by Salford earlier this month at Borough Park and the reverse fixture was due to take place last night.

A pitch inspection took place at Moor Lane yesterday afternoon, but the surface was deemed too waterlogged.

He said: “We wanted to play and put things right from when we played them at home but on the other hand we’ve got a couple of knocks and injuries so it might do us a favour.

“Some of us have little knocks, so maybe it’s not the worst thing in the world. The lads will train tonight and tomorrow.”

The Reds are next in action on Saturday when they take on Ilkeston at home before a home cup match with Clitheroe next Tuesday.

They have won two of their last four games and their play-off dreams remain alive.

Despite being hammered by Salford, May insists the players are staying positive and will use the extra preparation time for Saturday to their advantage.

He added: “We’ve had a little talk about a few things. There’s a bit of negativity, but people need to look at the whole picture.

“We have a small squad and the staff get the most they can. We’re not a Salford with endless amounts of money, you’ve got to be realistic.”

The match will be rescheduled, but a date has yet to be confirmed.
