Workington Reds emphatically bounced back from defeat by cruising to a 4-0 win at home to rock-bottom Ramsbottom yesterday.

After a disappointing 2-0 loss away at Halesowen on Saturday, Derek Townsley’s men were keen to make amends in front of the Borough Park faithful.

And they did so in emphatic fashion against the Evo-Stik Premier Division’s bottom side.

They won 4-0 in the end but it could have six or seven if Reds had enjoyed more luck or perhaps sharper finishing in front of goal.

Boss Townsley said: “I was very pleased with how we started the game. We have always said about coming out and getting at them. We certainly did that.

“Then I just felt we took our foot off the gas. I thought if we had gone for the jugular there could have been more goals for us.

“I am pleased overall but we are capable of better. I said to the boys after the game ‘if we had our shooting boots on in the final third it could have been six or seven’. But we shouldn’t grumble after a 4-0 win.

“We have played two games in three days and it’s a warm day, so credit to them. It’s a fantastic result and the lads have worked superbly hard over the last few days.

“We have got to take the positives from today into Saturday which will be another tough one for us. We are hopeful and we know we are certainly capable.”

Joe McGee was outstanding for Reds as he ran the show from an attacking midfield position.

McGee got the ball rolling on 10 minutes when he raced clear to fire Reds into the lead.

Just three minutes later he turned provider for Scott Allison after some clever footwork to release the winger.

Gareth Arnison made it 3-0 on 25 minutes and bagged his double four minutes from the end after firing in a rebound after initially missing his penalty.

Next for Reds, who have yet to win on the road this season, is a tricky away match at Rushall Olympic on Saturday.
