Nobody at Workington Reds is at panic stations following the side’s shock exit from the FA Trophy, insists assistant manager Lee Andrews.

Reds were comfortably beaten 3-0 by struggling Evo-Stik Premier Division rivals Whitby Town at Borough Park on Saturday, ending their FA Trophy hopes at the first qualifying round stage.

But Andrews, fellow assistant boss Dave Hewson and manager Derek Townsley remain positive when assessing the season so far.

The West Cumbrians are ninth in the table, two points off the play-off positions and have only tasted defeat three times in the league so far.

Andrews said: “I think everyone was disappointed with the Whitby result. It was just one of those days where everything seemed go wrong. Too many people had off days.

“The three of us [Andrews, Hewson and Townsley] had a look at how things are going and in the grand scheme of things we are not doing too bad. We have lost five in the last 19 games, we are in a good position in the league and we want to get back on a winning run.

“We’ve only lost three times in the league. It’s not a disaster. We are not at panic stations.”

Reds will be back in league action on Saturday when they travel to face 12th-placed Sutton Coldfield Town.

The two sides drew 1-1 at Borough Park on the opening day of the season, a result which frustrated Andrews.

“We were disappointed that in the first game of the season we didn’t pick up three points,” he said. “They came with a game plan to frustrate us. Their mindset will be a bit different at home. The game will be a bit more open.”

Reds will be without suspended duo Gari Rowntree and Conor Tinnion, two of the team’s regular starters this season.

Andrews added: “They are two of our biggest players. They would be a miss to any team.”

Andrews also revealed that Alex Mitchell, Rob McCartney and Kingsley Grandinson are all set to feature for Workington Reds Reserves tonight in their match against Squires Gate at Borough Park (8pm ko).
