Penrith snatched a late equaliser to draw with Workington Reds in last night's pre-season friendly

Reds were winning 1-0 going into the dying minutes of the game.

But then a diagonal ball from Jordan Little found the head of Kevin Little and he struck the bar. Then Andy Murray-Jones coolly slotted home the rebound for 1-1 at the final whistle.

Reds had dominated the first half, the returning Phil McLuckie putting them ahead on the stroke of half time with a header.

But this was scant reward for their efforts as they had other chances to put the game to bed with Josh Calvert hitting the woodwork from 25-yards out.

And Scott Allison hit the bar just before Penrith equalised in a match where the heat also took its toll on the players.

Reds director, Steve Durham, said: "We probably should have been comfortably ahead at half time and in the end one goal was not enough.

"But it was a good workout for us. We had four youngsters on the bench and maybe we lacked a bit of experience.

"At this point results are not important but they will be disappointed to lose at the death.

"But Penrith did deserve some reward for their efforts, especially in the second half."

There was an unusual substitution when Penrith keeper and former Reds star Jonny Jamieson had to leave the field with a back injury on 52 minutes.

Penrith had no substitute keeper so Reds offered the services of Tom Fowler who then spent the remainder of the match in the home side's goal.

Reds youngster Jamie Bethwaite was also struck by injury. He came on as a sub but was taken off 10 minutes later with a cut to his eye.
