Workington Reds' player of the year Conor Tinnion has signed a new deal to remain at Borough Park for the 2017-18 campaign.

Tinnion is the first player to commit his future to the club for a further 12 months.

And joint manager Lee Andrews says he is delighted to welcome one of their most consistent performers back on board.

"When you consider for the past two seasons he has been our player of the year, he is one that we definitely wanted to keep hold of," said Andrews.

"We knew that if we didn't tie him down there would definitely be interest from elsewhere.

"So we are pleased he has signed and there will be more to follow in the next few days."

Andrews praised Tinnion not just for his attacking abilities but how he has improved his all-round game over the past few years.

"We all know what Conor's attacking qualities are," added Andrews. "But over the last two or three years he has brought more to his game.

"His workrate is simply phenomenal, he covers more blades of grass on the pitch than anyone else.

"He is also a bit of a leader on the pitch so it is great to have him on board."

Tinnion has skippered the side occasionally last season, and has made 148 starts since Reds returned to the Evo-Stik Premier League in 2015.

And Andrews admits that he definitely leads by example, both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

He added: "He is very down to earth, he isn't a shouter but he will have his say and gets his point across."

Andrews says he and Dave Hewson have looked at players they want to retain and add to the squad and they hope to have the bulk of the talent signed up as soon as possible.
