New Workington Reds Reserves team boss Steven Rudd says his overiding aim is to get players into the first team.
Rudd has taken over the managers position from Dave Rodgie, who stepped down at the end of last season.
Many of the reserves players will enter the new season full of confidence after being a part of the Workington Reds U21s side that recently won the Cumberland FA U21 Summer League Champions League final.
The young side hammered Windscale FC U21s 7-1 in the final at Penrith earlier this month.
Rudd said: "The lads finished bottom of the reserves league last year so the competition was good for confidence.
"We are going into the new season pretty confident.
"We are not there to win the reserve league, it's about giving decent, local players a chance to get into the first team."
Success stories in the past have included Sam Smith, Jake Smith, Phil McLuckie, Jonny Murray and Adam Telfer all making the step up from the reserves to the first team.
Reds Reserves will be in action at Borough Park on Wednesday (8pm ko) against Bamber Bridge.
