Workington Reds will head into tomorrow's game at home to Penrith with a full squad – and two more signings could be on the way.

First-team regulars Conor Tinnion, Anthony Wright, Scott Allison and Josh Calvert will all be back involved for the pre-season match against Penrith (7.30pm ko) after they were absent for Workington’s 0-0 draw with Barrow on Saturday.

Manager Derek Townsley is also trying to secure deals for two players who both played at a higher level than Reds last season.

Townsley revealed at Sunday’s open day at Borough Park that he was in talks with the two players.

Lee Andrews, joint-assistant manager at Reds, said Townsley had made an offer to one player and was waiting for a response, while he had due to speak to the other player today.

One player is an attacker and the other is a midfielder.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jake Smith has left the club to join Penrith and trialist Steven Logan is no longer involved with the team. However, trialist Rob McCartney is still with the Reds squad.

Workington will look to build on Saturday’s impressive performance against Barrow with a victory at home to Penrith tomorrow.

Andrews said: “We were unlucky against Barrow really. We probably deserved to win it.

“It was a good performance. They are two divisions above us, on a much bigger budget and we had four players missing.”

Northern Football League Division side Penrith have had a solid pre-season so far. Although they lost 7-0 at home to Carlisle, they have picked up wins against Cockermouth, Appleby and Windscale, as well as being held to a thrilling 3-3 draw at home to Kendal Town.
