Workington Reds boss Dave Hewson says striker Scott Allison is full of confidence as he continues to rack up the goals.

Last season's top scorer, Allison is hitting a purple patch for Reds and added two more in their midweek 3-0 victory over Spennymoor Town.

And Hewson is delighted to see one of his key players hit form as Reds continue their rise up the Evo Stik Northern Premier Division.

"He is back to his best and looks like the Scotty of old," said Hewson.

"Scott has been struggling for a long time with a niggling groin injury but hopefully that's starting to ease up and he's playing with a lot more freedom.

"When he plays in that central role he's such a threat with his pace, his skill and his finishing ability.

"It is just great for him, he has a smile on his face and it seems when your confidence is high everything you touch seems to go in."

Hewson admitted getting key players back over recent weeks has been instrumental in their return to form.

Gari Rowntree and Joe McGee are back to fitness and Dave Symington made his return after suspension on Tuesday night.

"It just shows how important the strength of the squad is," said Hewson.

"We are getting key players back fit and there's competition for places. When you have the likes of Joe McGee and Dave Symington to bring on off the bench, it's a big massive boost for us.

"Also the return of Gari. We have been talking about this as a management team.

"We feel like he's been such a positive influence around the dressing room and around the team and as captain he does what you want him to do.

"All credit to Gari with his rehab, he's done everything properly. He has come back into the team and it's just so good to have him back."

Reds now travel to Stourbridge on Saturday with a run of four victories in the league behind them, and also four clean sheets.

But they will be without the suspended James Earl who has to sit out after receiving five yellow cards.
