Workington Reds are hoping the new up front partnership between Scott Allison and new boy Jack Ryan will continue to flourish.

The duo worked well together in last Saturday's victory over Corby Town and boss Derek Townsley is confident there is more to come.

Allison got the only goal of the game but Reds had the majority of possession and the two players caused problems for the Corby defence.

"Scott is an honest, good lad. He gives you everything," said Townsley.

"I thought him and Jack worked well as a pair so that looks promising and that will hopefully continue to flourish between the two of them.

"But Scott really worked his socks off, as did the whole team."

Townsley was also delighted that the club is getting near to having a full squad to choose from after an injury-hit start.

Gari Rowntree played 67 minutes on Saturday and Joe McGee returned to the fray off the bench. And with Anthony Wright also verging on a comeback, the squad is looking healthier.

Although Townlsey admitted it was unfortunate that some players will then miss out.

"We're nursing Gaz along as naturally he is going to get tired, certainly on pitches at the moment," said Townsley.

"We are into the period where we are going to get heavy pitches but at the same time he is one player that I want involved.

"He is a big players for us, he has a big influence in the dressing room so we're delighted to have him back and he's not too far away from playing 90 minutes.

"We are at that stage now where we are going to have one or two lads who are going to be disappointed.

"But from our point of view it's a nice problem to have, given the spate of injuries and the rest of the things we've had to deal with since the beginning of the season."

Reds will look to extend their winning run in the league on Saturday when they head to Ilkeston, ko 3pm.

Workington’s Integro League Cup tie against Ramsbottom United, cancelled this week to accommodate the latter’s FA Trophy match, will now be played at Borough Park on Tuesday, November 29, kick-off 7.45pm.
