Workington boss Dave Hewson is expecting a reaction on Saturday after his side’s 1-0 defeat at Witton last night.

Hewson wasn’t happy about his side’s lack of desire against a Witton side which had lost their five previous games.

“We made a slow start and paid the price when they got an early lead. I thought we just weren’t at it,” said Hewson.

“Although we had a lot more possession, as you would expect after they went down to 10 men, the final ball was often poor.

“I just thought too many of our lads were off their game and I know there will be a reaction at the weekend.

“This is a demanding league and we can’t afford to drop our standards.

“I think we got what we deserved from this one – no points.”

Witton goal-scorer Prince Haywood was sent off on 56 minutes for an elbow on Jordan Holt.

Reds travel to Hednesford on Saturday looking to get back on track.
