Workington Reds captain Gari Rowntree is urging his side to fight for their clean sheet run when they go toe-to-toe with fellow play-off challengers Spennymoor tonight.

The league newcomers beat Reds 4-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this month and boast one of the best attacking and defensive records so far.

Since that defeat, the Borough Park outfit have enjoyed an upturn in fortunes with four straight wins in all competitions without conceding.

They have beaten Frizington in the County Cup and Marine, Corby and Ilkeston in the league.

Rowntree said: "All the lads seem nice and positive and we're on a good run.

"It's always better when you're picking up points and also a few clean sheets which is always a bonus.

"If you keep clean sheets, you're going to pick up points.

"It's a big game for us. We're on the back of a good run and we want to keep that going.

"They've got a big budget and squad and will be up there this season."

In the reverse game three weeks ago, Reds were reduced to ten men when David Symington was sent off with the scores level at 1-1.

Following the dismissal, they conceded three goals within twelve second half minutes.

A victory for Reds would be their fourth consecutive league win and could see them close the gap on the top five to a point.

Rowntree returned to the pitch recently after a six-month lay-off and played his first full 90 minutes since his injury against Ilkeston on Saturday.

He added: "The red card in the last game changed the game. Before David got sent off, we were on top and they were passing it about.

"We'd love to keep another clean sheet. The run is at four including the County Cup.

"It's nice to get a clean sheet, but we always create chances and you never know with football."

Kick off is at Borough Park at 7.45pm.
