Experienced Workington Reds defender Kyle May believes his team cannot afford many more slip-ups as the promotion race hots up.

Nine-man Reds lost 3-2 at Stafford on Saturday and May admitted the competitive chase for a top five finish puts the pressure on their trip to Grantham Town this weekend.

The Gingerbreads sit one place and a single point above Reds in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division table, albeit the West Cumbrians have two games in hand.

May said:"We can't really let up because the play-offs are so tight.

"Even though we are doing well, a couple of slip-ups and you're back out of it.

"We need to keep doing what we're doing."

Despite the pressure, May believes there is no reason Reds cannot get back to winning ways and continue their good form.

He added: "Anything you get away from home at Grantham is going to be a bonus but it's added pressure now losing the last game.

"Obviously, we're expecting a tough game but we're hoping to get something.

"We've been doing reasonably well and have been more consistent and we've played a few of the top teams and done okay."
