Workington Reds fear no-one after last season’s superb campaign, claims striker Alex Salmon ahead of his side’s bumper bank holiday weekend.

Reds are one of the teams to beat this season after finishing as runners-up in the 2014/2015 Evo-Stik Premier Division.

The west Cumbrians finally got their season up and running with a classy performance and a 2-1 victory against Darlington 1883 at Borough Park on Tuesday.

But Salmon, who set up Conor Tinnion’s stunning winner against Darlington, believes picking up their first three points was just rewards for their good play in matches so far this season.

He said: “We were obviously happy. It was nice to finally get the win we thought we deserved in other games.

“The goals weren’t coming. With Conor’s first goal, that was just the luck of the draw which we weren’t getting before. His second goal was just outstanding.

“Darlington were a good side but I thought we were better.”

Workington face two games in three games this weekend.

They travel to the West Midlands today (29th) to take on Halesowen Town and then host Ramsbottom United at Borough on Monday (31st) (both 3pm kick-offs).

Last season Reds were unbeaten against both teams, winning two and drawing two.

Salmon added: “It will be a lot of travelling.

“Hopefully we will come back with six points.

“We are just looking to go one better from last year. After last season we go into every game confident and believing we can win.

“I can’t remember any teams that went on the run we did last season. I don’t think we fear anyone.”

Reds have no injury concerns ahead of the two games.
