Workington Reds have an early chance to complete a league double when they travel to Frickley Athletic tonight.

The Yorkshiremen lost 2-0 at Borough Park in the opening midweek game of the season, but since then, Reds have not been able to win a league match.

It’s been even harder for Frickley who currently prop up the league without a point.

Strong finishers last season, they looked destined to challenge this term but lost half their team in the summer and have had to start re-building again.

Workington’s management team are waiting for an update on Phil McLuckie who missed Saturday’s trip to Halesowen with a neck injury.

“We want to give Phil as long as possible to declare himself fit,” said joint-boss Dave Hewson.

“Kyle May and James Earl, who were unavailable on Saturday, are back in the squad so we are getting close to full strength.

“Gari Rowntree and Anthony Wright are the only long-term absentees."

Hewson was bitterly disappointed by the 3-2 defeat at Halesowen on Saturday, particularly after the way they started the game.

“We started really well, hit the bar after five minutes and generally looked good, as we had done against Warrington the previous Saturday," he said.

“I was sure there was going to be only one outcome, a good win for us.

“But then a mistake gets them in front and we lose our composure and virtually have to start again.

"We were just getting back into it when another mistake allows them to double their lead."

Hewson added: “You are always a bit wary about going to clubs who haven’t got a win or a point but I am confident we can put out a team tonight capable of bringing home the points."

Reds won at Rushall Olympic on the opening day and followed-up against Frickley but, since then, have only managed to gather one League point at Sutton Coldfield.

They get a break from league action on Saturday when Shildon visit Borough Park in the FA Cup with £4,500 for the winners.
