Workington Reds boss Derek Townsley is hoping for a bumper crowd at Borough Park tomorrow when they welcome Carlisle United, ko 3pm.

Townsley said this is a real opportunity for fans to get a good look at both teams as they prepare for the new season.

And with Reds currently boasting several former United players in their ranks, there will be some points to prove.

“When anyone plays against their former club, individuals have their own points to prove,” said Townsley.

“Obviously they will look to do well and none more so probably than David Symington who not that long ago was playing first team football for them.

“But the big thing for us is to get a good turnout as financially it is important for us.

“There are plenty of Carlisle fans in West Cumbria who won’t have to travel as far to see their team so we hope they will come out in numbers.”

Reds fans could get their first chance to see Tom Kilifin in action, after he missed the midweek 5-0 defeat of Whitehaven Amateurs.

Townsley admitted he would rather have played Carlisle in another couple of weeks time with more training under their belt.

But he was looking forward to the clash.

“We have only been back for just over a weekbut it is important we give a good account of ourselves,” he added.

“But, rightly so, we fit in with Carlisle’s schedule. It is good for our players to play against the local professional side and it is even better if we have a packed house.”

Carlisle boss Keith Curle says he plans to step up his team’s pre-season preparations against Reds. The Blues manager says he will give some of his new-look squad more pitch time on Saturday than they have had so far in United’s first two friendlies.

“Certain players will get 60 minutes,” said Curle, who will include most of his eight summer signings. “We know it will be a good test for us.”
