Workington Reds Ladies are out to make it a double success for the Borough Park club tonight.

The ladies side will walk out at Gillford Park in the Cumberland Cup final aiming to emulate the men's team who lifted their trophy on Tuesday night.

This is the first time Reds ladies have made it to the county final and they are full of confidence that they can pull off the win against Carlisle United, ko 7pm.

"There is a lot of excitement in the squad," said manager Billy Redden. "A lot of them are a bit nervous as well because they have never been in this situation before.

"We are quite confident going in to the game and we have a full strength squad to choose from."

Redden has seen his side decimated by injuries over the past few months and with only a small squad to choose from, he has had to pull out all the stops to keep going.

But with their key players all back and fit for action, he hopes they can pull off the win, which he says would be a massive boost for his side.

"We had three of our key players out for a while and when we are only getting 11 or 12 travelling away, to have two or three out is a bit of a blow," said Redden.

"And the league have hammered us with fixtures in recent weeks. We will be playing five games within 12 days."

Reds played Penrith last Wednesday, then Bury on Sunday, followed by Carlisle on Wednesday night and again in the final on Friday.

Workington finish off by hosting Haslingden in their final league game on Sunday.

"It is a bit of a grueller," admitted Redden. "But thankfully so far we have picked up no more knocks.

"I only had to play three of my starting XI for Friday on Wednesday night and they all came off at half time.

"I called in Fiona Buglass who has retired really and a few more girls who haven't played regularly this year so it was a real squad effort to make sure everybody is fit for the final."

Redden added: "A win would really benefit us and not just for the success but to help us boost our profile.

"There are local girls who play for Carlisle and Penrith and if we can show we can compete with the best of them then maybe they will realise you don't have to travel to play for a competitive team.

"Hopefully we can also attract more sponsors and it would be great for the clubs to have both the men and women's teams as county champions in the same year."
