Workington Reds boss Derek Townsley hopes that Monday’s superb 4-0 victory has filled his team full of confidence ahead of tomorrow’s clash away at Rushall Olympic.

Reds hammered Evo-Stik Premier Division side Ramsbottom United 4-0 at Borough Park but face a much tougher test tomorrow when they travel to the West Midlands (3pm ko) looking for their first away win of the season.

Townsley said: “We should be full of confidence after Monday. We took a clean sheet and scored a few goals.

“Let’s hope that stands us in good stead for tomorrow.”

Tenth-placed Rushall are one place above Workington in the table after picking up two wins, three draws and one loss.

Reds enjoyed mixed fortunes against Rushall last season, who finished ninth overall. The West Cumbrians lost 3-0 at Rushall in October but then beat them 3-2 at Borough Park in January.

Townsley added: “They are a big, physical side. They beat us 3-0 last year and bullied us a bit. We will be looking to avoid that this time round.”

Reds have no injuries ahead of the match, with only niggles being a slight concern.

Workington will also be in action on Tuesday night when they take on Hyde United at home (7.45pm ko).

Meanwhile, Workington Reds Ladies will play Mersey Girls at Borough Park on Sunday in the first qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup.

The match starts at 2pm and entry is £2 via an honesty box. Under-16s can get in for free.
