Workington Reds boss Dave Hewson says it is key his side follow up Tuesday night’s victory with another win on Saturday.

Reds beat Marine 4-0 at Borough Park midweek and moved up to 14th in the Evo Stik Northern Premier and they could continue their climb if they can beat Corby Town at the weekend.

“We’ve got to be consistent,” he admitted. “It would be great to put a little run together. We’ve been very up and down this season it’s been frustrating for everyone.

“We bounce back and have a great result like Tuesday but we need to follow it up.

“We’re at home again on Saturday and we would like a big crowd, everyone to come down and get behind the lads.

“If we can turn out another performance like Tuesday night then we won’t go far wrong.”

With players returning, a more settled side will be beneficial to Reds’ progress, admitted Hewson.

He added: “With Anthony Wright back in training and Gari Rowntree making his

first start in the league this season as well, plus the new signing Jack Ryan, the squad is starting to take shape.

“Fingers crossed we can stay injury free and we can get a nice settled squad and competition for places which is always crucial.”

Ryan made his league debut for Reds against Marine and Hewson says he will be an asset to the squad as the weeks go on.

“He’s from very good pedigree and I think he’s the type of centre forward that we are looking for, someone big and strong who can hold the ball up,” said Hewson.

“He’s not match fit, he needs games but that’s what he’s come to us for.

“Hopefully we’ll see more and more of Jack and he’ll just get better as the games go on and hopefully he can be a real strong asset to the squad.”
