Workington Reds defender Jake Simpson has hailed the resilience of his side's backline after they stretched their run of clean sheets.

Reds have won their last five matches in all competitions and Monday's 4-0 mauling of Hyde means they haven't conceded a goal in their last four games.

The last time Reds let a goal in was in their 5-2 demolition of Ashton United on Saturday, January 9 and haven't conceded in more than 360 minutes of football.

Simpson said: "As far as our promotion push in concerned, a clean sheet gives us a chance of winning and you can't lose if you don't concede.

"We haven't got a target in mind, but we always want to keep a clean sheet and that won't change. No matter who we're playing we want to keep a clean sheet and that won't change."

Derek Townsley's side have lifted themselves up to second in the table and only Blyth Spartans are ahead of them in the standings.

On Saturday they travel to Mickleover Sports and then face a mouth-watering clash with Blyth on Tuesday night at Borough Park.

Simpson added: "We've started putting away a lot of chances and it's good to see results like 3-0 and 4-0.

"We feel we can win it on Saturday and we will go in nice and positive and hopefully we'll get another three points."

Meanwhile a meeting took place at Borough Park last night to discuss management structure.

Fans had the chance to ask manager Derek Townsley and assistant Dave Hewson questions and plans were outlined for ways to get more groups involved with the day-to-day running of the club.
