Workington Reds players are fit and fired up for a bumper bank holiday weekend of football, says assistant boss Dave Hewson.

The West Cumbrians, fresh from picking up their first three points of the season at home to Darlington 1883 on Tuesday, face two games in three days this weekend.

They travel to take on Halesowen Town away tomorrow and then host Ramsbottom United at Borough Park on Monday (both 3pm kick-offs).

Hewson, joint-assistant manager, said: “It’s always a challenge when you have matches on Saturday and Monday.

“We have a young, fit squad and a lot of the lads are hitting top form.

“The fitness is the best it’s been and we haven’t got any injuries.”

Conor Tinnion was Reds’ hero on Tuesday when his double sealed a 2-1 win against fellow promotion hopefuls Darlington.

Hewson added: “It was a massive boost. We weren’t lacking in confidence. We were confident in our own abilities. But until you get that first win under you belt, you are always apprehensive.

“In the dressing room we were pleased with the win. The lads were saying we need to kick on.”

A total of 684 fans packed into Borough Park for the match.

“It was great to put on a performance for them,” Hewson said. “There some fans saying it was a great game of football. It’s only going to help to bring them down to the next game.”

The Reds Development Fund group will hold a Chinese Evening with chef John Crouch at the Reds club bar at 7pm on Friday, September 18.

There will also be a raffle, tombola and fun quiz.

The event will raise money for Workington Reds.

Tickets cost £10 per person or £18 for a couple.

Tickets can be purchased at any home game before the night.
