Skipper Gari Rowntree hopes the drama has passed for his Workington Reds side after they climbed back into the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division play-off places with a third consecutive victory.

Reds’ 3-1 win over Stourbridge moved them up to fifth place and, after finishing games with nine and 10 men in recent weeks, Rowntree wants to see this run of form spell the end of the unpredictable matches that have plagued their season.

“It’s an important part of the season so we just want to keep the run going,” he said.

“We got through Saturday with no drama.

“We’ve had a few crazy games and injuries but hopefully that’s behind us now.

“The lads were brilliant on Saturday, despite the conditions not being the best. So it was difficult and the pitch was very heavy.

“The Hednesford game gave us a lot of confidence and the full team is doing well, the back five are nice and solid at the moment.

“We’ve got to keep doing what we’ve been doing.”

Sam Joel’s brace gave Workington victory on Saturday and Rowntree had nothing but praise for the young striker who joined the club in January.

He said: “He’s obviously a talented young lad who’s got a lot of ability.

“He’s done brilliantly, scored goals and is a threat all the time.”
