Conor Tinnion believes Workington Reds are putting together a squad that is more than capable of challenging in the Evo Stik premier division this season.

Reds go back into pre-season training next week and Tinnion is raring to get back into action.

He had one of his most successful seasons ever in front of goal for the Borough Park club and he is hopeful that can continue.

“I don’t have any major personal goals but I did have my best goal scoring season last year and I would like to be somewhere near that again,” he admitted.

“From a team perspective, if we are being honest, we should be up there challenging again.

“If you look at how close we came last season, that is what we need to be aiming for again.”

Newcomers to the league this year are Coalville Town, Corby Town, Hednesford, Warrington Town, Spennymoor Town and Stafford Rangers.

But Tinnion says it doesn’t matter who they are up against, as all matches will be tough.

And he is looking forward to working under the new management team of Derek Townsley, Dave Hewson and Lee Andrews.

Tinnion was delighted though with the addition of goalkeeper Aaran Taylor and hanging on to some key members of last term’s squad.

“When you do well, which we did last season, getting to the final, people are always going to look at your players,” said Tinnion.

“So the main thing for us was to hang on to the lads we already had. There was nothing really wrong with the squad we had.

“I have played with Aaran Taylor and I think personally, for our level, he will be the best keeper.

“So that was a massive signing for us.

“And keeping hold of Jake Simpson and Scott Allison and everyone else that has re-signed is great.”

Workington Reds will be showing the England versus Iceland match on Monday night in the Shankly bar. Doors will be open from 6.30pm.
