Hitman Scott Allison is a major doubt for Workington Reds’ FA Cup replay tomorrow night.

Last season’s top scorer had to retire 27 minutes into Saturday’s third qualifying round tie with a thigh strain.

Team manager Derek Townsley said: “It doesn’t look good. I think the replay might come a little too soon for him, but we will monitor it and hope for the best.”

Tomorrow’s replay at Borough Park was set-up by a 1-1 draw at Matlock, where Kyle May’s 66th-minute header cancelling-out Marc Neesham’s headed opener.

Despite some strange refereeing decisions by Scott Simpson, the two sides served up an entertaining game and it will be a different official for the replay.

“I don’t want to say too much about the referee, only to say I don’t think we got a rub of the green.

“We should have had a penalty when Tom Kilifin was tripped in the box and the sending-off of James Earl was just plain wrong,” added Townsley.

The referee was with the assessor for over half an hour after the game, which suggests he had issues to go through.

Earl was sent-off in the 90th minute and Reds had four minutes to survive with 10 men – even though they had been told there were three minutes being added on.

As a result of the straight red Earl will miss three games, starting on Saturday when Matlock return to Borough Park for a league game.

He will be available for Tuesday’s replay, as will fellow midfielder Phil McLuckie who missed the weekend game because he was attending a wedding.

Josh Calvert, however, will continue to be side-lined as he recovers from a niggling hamstring problem which caused him to limp off at Skelmersdale on Tuesday.
