Workington Reds will travel to Stafford on Saturday to take on a team who are still firmly eyeing the play-off places this season.

Stafford Rangers currently lie in 16th place in the Evo Stik Northern Premier League, nine places and 14 points adrift of Reds in seventh.

But their chairman John Bromley still firmly believes his team are in with a shout still this term.

And he added he was sure that they were just "a few players short" of making a definite bid for the play-offs next season under manager Neil Kitching.

"We are certainly not giving up the chase this season and will be fighting hard for every point," he said.

"We are only short of a few more players and we will be pushing for the play-offs next season.

"Kitch and his team are doing a great job."

After having only played 29 games so far this season, they have some in hand on most of their higher opponents.

But a run of five games without a win has put a serious dent in the newly-promoted side's ambition.

Although a top half finish is not impossible, Stafford will now have to do it the hard way.

Bromley described Saturday's clash with Workington as "interesting" and added that he hoped it would attract a good crowd.

He said: "It should be an interesting game on Saturday when Workington visit Marston Road.

"They sit just outside the play-offs on the same points."

Reds are going into the long away trip with the hopes of bagging a win and clawing their way back up the table.

Depending on other results, the crucial three points could see them bounce as high as second.

And Workington will be out to gain revenge for the 2-1 defeat a physical Stafford side handed out to them at Borough Park back in October.
