Lancaster City hitman Tom Kilifin was poised to sign for Workington Reds last night.

Kilifin has been a regular in the Evo-Stik First Division North side since joining them in March 2012 after a short spell with Kendal Town.

But after talks with Reds bosses, the 23-year-old striker was due to sign on the dotted line at Borough Park last night.

"He is an attacking player and another young lads so he will give us more options," said team manager Derek Townsley.

"We already have Scott Allison up there and he certainly gives us another option in what he bring to the table.

"He is a good player and one that we are pretty sure will make the step up to play at this level."

Townsley is delighted with the way the team is shaping up ahead of the new league season.

With the addition of Joe McGee this week and former Penrith striker Nathan Waterson coming in on trial, Townsley and joint manager Dave Hewson and Lee Andrews are putting together a side they believe capable of challenging for promotion.

But he says he is still on the hunt for a centre forward to complete his attacking options.

Reds are back in training at Borough Park tonight ahead of their opening pre-season fixture at Whitehaven AFC next Tuesday.

The two sides will clash at the County Ground in the Shaun Hocking Memorial Trophy, ko 7.30pm.

Whitehaven Amateurs will have a fresh start with a new league for the coming football season.

The club will now ply their trade in the North Lancashire & District League after being moved by the FA from the Wearside League.

Chairman Bill Robson believes this is only a good thing and that a fresh start will give the club a boost.

“We are now in a different pyramid system, so instead of going over to the North East we are now in the North West,” said Robson.

“This is now the FA’s preferred option for us, with promotion to the North West Counties the ultimate goal.

“It is a new challenge for us. It is a new league with new teams and new grounds, so we are all looking forward to it.”
