Workington Reds were handed a boost ahead of tonight's crunch tie with Matlock Town - with two of their stars named in the team of the season.

Conor Tinnion and injured skipper Gari Rowntree were both named in the Evo-Stik premier division team of the year.

The duo were recognised on Sunday night by the league’s managers after enjoying fine personal campaigns.

Tinnion said he was delighted with the accolade but his priority is still tonight's clash at Borough Park, 7.45pm ko, which could decide their play-off fate.

"We have given ourselves a chance with the win on Saturday," said Tinnion, whose side won 1-0 at play-off rivals Ashton on Saturday to reduce the gap to just one point.

"We haven't done ourselves justice in the last month or so, so to get that result on Saturday was like we had been given a second chance.

"Hopefully we can now make Ashton have a wobble, like we did. But we can't control that, we just have to win our last two games.

"This is a must win game and we have to take the points and if we don't then we will only have ourselves to blame."

He said mid-table Matlock could be a dangerous side as they are heading to Workingon with no pressure on their shoulders.

"They are not a bad side. We could probably count ourselves lucky to win in the last minute down there," added Tinnion.

"They have got nothing to lose and they can play with no pressure so they will be dangerous.

"But it doesn't matter who we play in the last two games, they were never going to be easy.

"In reality this will be pretty tense and we just have to make ourselves hard to beat and hopefully take our chances."

Tinnion admitted it was fantastic for him and Rowntree to be named in the team of the year but said a few more of the Reds players were unlucky to not be in amongst them.

"It is great to have a bit of recognition and we were both proud to have been chosen," he added.

"But, to be honest, we could have had a couple more. I wouldn't say myself and Gari were the stand-out players  this year, there are a couple more who should count themselves unlucky not to get in.

"We have fell away recently but for most of the season I believe we have had some players who were as good as those selected."
