Dave Hewson hailed goalscorer Conor Tinnion for a superb display which led to Workington Reds getting their league campaign back on track.

Tinnion grabbed two superb goals as Reds registered a 3-1 victory over visitors Warrington Town on Saturday.

Dave Symington scored the first goal from the penalty spot but it was Tinnion’s day and his impact on the game was praised by joint boss Hewson.

“I really can’t praise Conor enough, the way he’s come on as a player and as a character in the dressing room as well,” said Hewson.

“He’s such an important person for the club and at times, when he’s at his best, other teams can’t deal with him.

“But it’s not just the goals that he scores and his creativity, it’s his workrate and work ethic that he’s brought into his game.”

Hewson added: “He’s still charging around the pitch 88/89 minutes in, closing people down, doing so much for the team.

“Because he’s added that to his game, he’s a much more complete player.

“And today, when he jinked inside and put it in the top corner, it was just a magnificent display from Conor.”

Hewson was delighted to put last weekend’s loss behind them and concentrate on climbing back up the league ladder.

The win, combined with other results moved Reds up to sixth, on level points with the two teams directly above them and only two points adrift of second placed Whitby Town.

“It was important after the disappointment of last weekend, to get back to winning ways,” added Hewson.

“We are in a great run of form at home. I thought the lads were magnificent throughout the game today in difficult conditions. All credit to them for another great home performance and a big three points.

“Warrington were a good side with some good individual players, very well organised under the new management team.

“And with regards to the conditions, the first half we were against the wind, and we dealt with it great.

“Aaran Taylor pulled off two magnificent saves which he is there to do for us. It kept us going in at half time with a clean sheet.

“I knew that if we continued to defend right we would always create chances.”
