Workington Reds manager Derek Townsley was ecstatic after his side brushed aside Halesowen Town at the weekend.

The hosts won a one-sided affair 3-0 courtesy of goals from Sam Smith, Gareth Arnison and Conor Tinnion.

It was a third straight win for the home side and they have now kept three consecutive clean sheets in all competitions.

Townsley said: “It was a good 90 minutes from start to finish. They were superb and there were no flat points. We started the game really well and carried it on to half-time and got right back where we left off.

“It’s always nice to have that cushion. Alex Mitchell didn’t have to save too much the other week against Ashton, but we let them get back in the game.”

Smith opened the scoring after latching onto Jake Simpson’s cross on 19 minutes and Arnison doubled the advantage on 26 minutes to put the hosts in control.

Tinnion was also on fine form as he added a third goal which was his 11th of the campaign on 87 minutes.

Attention now turns to tonight when Reds travel to mid-table Hyde United.

Josh Calvert has recovered from his groin injury faster than expected and Scott Allison will be available again after completing his suspension.

Townsley added: “We were pleased to get that third goal which gave us that breathing space.

“Arnison’s movement was superb and he kept their two centre halves occupied and he has that composure. We scored three good goals and I’m over the moon.”

Meanwhile a new management structure at Workington AFC is to be unveiled on Wednesday night when fans will hear at first-hand the latest plans for the Reds.

The get-together in the Borough Park Social Club had been initially designed for supporters to put questions to the current team management trio of Derek Townsley, Dave Hewson and Lee Andrews.

Now, though, the meeting will start with a brief presentation of the proposed new management structure that is intended to enable the club to become more inclusive and involve all those groups presently associated with Workington AFC.

John Mackay, a recent addition to the board of directors, said: “This is a meeting for those supporters interested in moving the club forward.”
