Delighted Workington Reds boss Dave Hewson paid tribute to an 'outstanding' team effort that saw them topple league leaders Rushall Olympic on Saturday.

Reds moved up to seventh in the league table after a superb 2-0 victory at Borough Park.

Two goals in two minutes from Kyle May and Conor Tinnion were just reward for the effort on show from the home side.

"I am very, very pleased," said Hewson after the match. "I thought to a man they were absolutely outstanding, their effort and their workrate, intensity and energy was phenomenal, from the first whistle.

"I'm a firm believer that you get your rewards for hard work and that's exactly what's happened today.

"But, on top of that, the quality that we've got I just think it was an all-round fantastic team performance and we thoroughly deserved the three points.

"When you give boys the licence to go and express themselves and when they're confident and they want to get on the ball, want to pass it, want to play properly, then we look a good side.

"It's about consistency though, there's no point seeing it every once in a while so we've set our stall out there if that's what we are going to get each week from the boys then so be it. We won't go far wrong."

He had special mention for the two goalscorers and the upfront duo of Nathan Waterston and Jack Ryan.

He added: "I don't want to single out many people as to a man they were outstanding but Conor Tinnion what he gives us, he gives us every single week. He's one of our most consistent performers.

"It's not just his quality on the ball, it's his workrate and his effort and desire off the ball and that spreads through the team.

"And that was the Kyle May of old, his defending was absolutely first class.

"He won every single header, he won every single tackle and when Kyle May is like that he leads by example.

"Also Jack Ryan up front, him and Nathan Waterston worked so hard and it was recognised by their team-mates.

"I think we saw today what an asset Jack Ryan could be to this club."

Joe McGee pulled up in the match warm-up and didn't take any part while Scott Allison also came off with a knock and will be assessed before tomorrow night's League Cup clash against Clitheroe, at Borough Park.
