Workington Reds boss Dave Hewson believes the pitch conditions could dictate the outcome of their league clash with Mickleover Sports this weekend.

Reds are hoping to brush off their League Cup defeat at the hands of Clitheroe on Tuesday night and concentrate on their league campaign.

But the recent weather and also what is now in the forecast, will have an effect on Saturday's game at Borough Park says Hewson.

"They've got the threats and they've got the dangers just like any other team," said Hewson.

"It will be another physical battle and unfortunately I think the elements will dictate the game.

"The pitch was very heavy on Tuesday night, very difficult, although it was the same for both teams so I'm not going to use that as any form of excuse.

"It will be difficult conditions again on Saturday but ones I hope and I know that we can adapt to.

"We are going to concentrate on getting the boys mentally and physically prepared for the big test ahead."

But Hewson did put out an appeal to Reds fans to get down to Borough Park and get behind his team.

A good crowd last weekend saw them defeat league leaders Rushall Olympic 2-0 and Hewson says the support is a huge boost for the team.

"Hopefully everyone will get behind the team again and we get a big support," he added.

"It's much appreciated. Getting down and getting behind the boys is what we need and it really does help us and make a difference."

Mickleover are currently lying in 14th place in the Evo Stik Northern Premier League table.

And they come into this game on the back of two defeats in the opening two matches of 2017.

Last Saturday they suffered a 1-0 home loss against Nantwich, who Reds beat 3-1 on Boxing Day at Borough Park.
