Workington Reds have moved quickly to keep a core trio of players at Borough Park next season.

Scott Allison, Aaran Taylor and Josh Calvert have all agreed new deals to help Reds have another tilt at the Northern Premier League title next term.

This follows the re-signing of Conor Tinnion earlier this week as managers David Hewson and Lee Andrews look to pull their squad together.

"It was crucial that we kept together the nucleus of the squad and these three lads have proved their importance to the team," said Hewson.

"They are three huge players for us and we are pleased to be able to keep them for another year."

Proven goal-scorer Allison will start his fifth season with the club. He has scored 63 goals for Reds including 14 last term when a niggling injury hampered his progress somewhat.

And Hewson sees him as key to the side's progress. He said: "Anyone would want Scott Allison in their team for what he gives you. He is such a talented player.

"Similar to Conor Tinnion, we want to keep our best players and Scotty has proved over so many seasons now that he is such an important player for us."

Taylor, an ever-present in last season’s league campaign, kept a clean sheet in six consecutive games during April, 19 in total, and skippered the side on several occasions.

Hewson was keen to retain his number one and not just for his goalkeeping abilities but also for his experience and influence.

He added: "We knew what we were getting when we got Aaran Taylor and that became more apparent towards the end of the season during that magnificent run to get to the play-offs.

"He is a big influence on the squad and a big character to have around. He's very experienced and the lads respect him, he is a huge player for us."

Calvert has enjoyed three seasons at Borough Park, quickly racking up a century of league appearances and collecting the Young Player of the Year award twice in that time.

He is now a key figure in the club's defence and midfield, his versatility making him a huge signing for Reds, especially following the departure of Kyle May.

"Josh has been a key man for a couple of seasons now," agreed Hewson.

"He has been one of our most consistent performers this season either at centre half or centre midfield.

"He has been outstanding and he's been rewarded with a new contract for next year."
