Workington Reds are up to seventh in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier after a superb 3-0 victory over Spennymoor Town last night.

Manager Dave Hewson was delighted with the performance as Reds put the game to bed with three quick-fire goals at the start of the second half.

Scott Allison bagged a brace and Conor Tinnion also got on the scoresheet as Reds picked up their fourth league win and fourth clean sheet.

Aaran Taylor made a couple of great saves in the dying minutes which was an added bonus for the home side.

"To a man I thought the lads were absolutely superb tonight, they deserve all the credit for their effort and their hard work," said Hewson.

"Not only that but they were able to show it in difficult conditions. It took us a while to get to grips with the game and came into it a little slowly.

"But I thought in the second half we were absolutely magnificent and could have potentially scored some more.

"All credit to the boys for a fantastic display and three points."

Reds continued their climb up the league and are now just one point away from the play-off positions.

But Hewson was still cautious and he added: "It's important that we don't get carried away.

"We know what this league is like and it can come back and bite you in the backside at any time.

"Its good to put a little run together and especially to keep the clean sheets but we need to keep our feet firmly on the ground.

"We have anther tough test at the weekend but we are full of confidence."

Reds travel to Stourbridge on Saturday to try and keep their run of form going.

But they will be without James Earl who has to sit out the game after receiving five yellow cards.
