Seaton Rangers head coach Les Ashe said that the club’s presentation evening capped what has been a fantastic year at Station Yard.

Forward Tom Curwen picked up both the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards and Paul Lowery was awarded the Coaches Player of the Year trophy.

“It’s been a brilliant year for Tom,” Ashe said. “He’s always had the ability.

“It’s been my first year coaching him because he missed last year with injury so to come back from that is testament to his character.

“It says a lot about the type of person you are when you are given the players’ award too.

“He’s been brilliant for us this season and he deserves his call-up to the county side.”

Speaking about forward Lowery, who was given the coaches’ award, Ashe added: “We had a few players in mind for this award but Paul was the one who stood out to us.

“He’s an 80 minute player and he’s one of those sorts of players who hates coming off the field.

“He’s a relentless player who gives 100 per cent every time he plays and he really puts his heart into everything Seaton does.”

Brett Symes finished as top try scorer despite a season-ending leg break during September’s fixture against Distington.

“It’s great for Brett to have finished as top scorer, and the support he has received from the rugby community has been incredible,” Ashe continued.

“The injury cost him more tries and an opportunity to be part of the county side but he’s young enough to recover from this.

“It’s humbling to know that so many people care about his wellbeing and

Distington made an incredible gesture after our game was called off by

doing a collection amongst themselves for Brett.”

Spanish international Miguel Blanco-Charters was awarded the Alan Rumney Trophy for his commitment to the club both on and off the field.

“We are delighted to be awarding a trophy in the name of Alan,” Ashe said. “He has given so much to the club over the years and he really is part of the furniture. We can’t thank him enough.”

Jack Earl was awarded Young Player of the Year, Caine Barnes was given Outstanding Youth Player Award and Dave Metherall picked up the Club Man trophy.

“I would like to thank Workington Town’s Mark Fryer and Tony Boyd for coming to our evening and helping with the presentation of awards,” Ashe added.

“It further strengthens our relationship with Workington Town and I would like to thank everyone at the club, including Phil Veivers, his coaching staff and players, for their help this season.”
