A bumper crowd is in store as West Cumbrian rivals Kells and Wath Brow face-off in the National Conference League premier division derby on Saturday.

The duo have had both their meetings this season postponed so this is the first time they will lock horns, with Kells Welfare the venue, ko 2.30pm.

And Kells boss Peter Smith believes it will be a real cracker of a contest.

"It is going to be very interesting," said Smith. "It's one of the only games on this weekend so we are hoping for a big crowd.

"We had two good games against Wath Brow last season, drawing one and then we won in the last five minutes of the other.

"I expect this game will be just as tight again."

Wath Brow are coming into the game on the back of a good win against Thatto Heath, who Kells only narrowly lost to the previous week.

And with both teams challenging for play-off positions the clash is key for all the players.

"All I ask for each year is improvement," added Smith. "Last year we finished seventh and this year we are looking to try and get in the play-offs."

The only downside for the Kells club is that their second team will not be present to cheer on the first team.

They are busy themselves, contesting the Cumbria Shield final against Walney at Barrow's Craven Park.

"This is a local derby, so it is a big game and all the lads want to be involved," said Smith.

"But I can only pick 17 and it will be a strong 17 but the ones that miss out will make the second team stronger for their final."

The only player who will definitely miss out of the Kells XIII is Bradley Smith who damaged his knee against Thatto Heath.
