Distington will complete a treble if they beat Walney Central at Whitehaven’s Recreation Ground tomorrow afternoon.

The village side has already won the E. Lamb Amateur Cup and the Cumbria Men’ League and this final fixture is the Top Four Play-Off final.

And it still isn’t over for Distington as they have a date with Seaton on October 17 at the Copeland Stadium in the final of the Cumberland Cup.

The Men’s League title was clinched in midweek when Distington took on Seaton at Workington Town’s Zebra Claims Stadium in a replay of the game that was ended early by the serious injury to Brett Symes.

Distington eventually won 22-12 after they scored ten unanswered second-half points which had followed an even first period.

Defence from both sides was outstanding after Seaton had taken the lead on three minutes with a try from Scott Rooke, converted by Kieran Mewes.

It only took three minutes for Distington to get on the sheet with a try from Bryan Ritchie and on 11 minutes they drew level with a penalty by Gavin Martin.

But Seaton regained the lead midway through the half when Matthew Lawman crossed and Mewes converted. It took until the last minute of the half for Distington to gain parity again hen Adam Conway got in for a try which Martin converted.

Five minutes into the second-half Martin kicked a penalty to give Distington the lead and it was Seaton’s discipline which proved costly in the second-half.

It was Martin again on 51 minutes with a try and conversion for Distington and four minutes later Martin kicked another penalty.

The result meant that Distington had won the League by two points from reigning champions Walney Central – and they meet up at Whitehaven tomorrow.

In actual fact the Distington club will stage a final tonight when League winners Ellenborough take-on runners-up Hensingham in the Iggesund Cumberland ARL top four play-off.

There’s a 7pm kick-off for what promises to be a very close contest. When they met last month Hensingham won a hard-fought contest by a single point.
