West Cumbria has two amateur teams left in this season's Ladbrokes Challenge Cup as Egremont Rangers and Kells both recorded victories in the opening round.

Distington and Wath Brow were put out at the opening stage despite putting up a good fight.

A superb game from Rhys Davies helped new Egremont player/coach John-Paul Brocklebank to victory in his first match at the helm.

Rangers welcome The Army to Gillfoot Park and overcame their visitors 24-14 in a hard-fought game.

Kells had to go on the road for their win at West Bowling but sealed a 12-0 win courtesy of tries from Scott Lofthouse and Reece O'Neill with two Ross Gainford penalties.

Distington were extremely unlucky to lose out at the home of Featherstone Lions.

It was a late score that gave the hosts the edge as they narrowly got the better of the Cumbrian Men's League champions 29-28.

Wath Brow hosted Haydock and the visitors got on top to lead 10-0 at half time.

Curtis Teare managed a try in the second half to try and bring his side back into the game but the conversion was missed and Haydock scored again to finish on top with a scoreline of 17-4.
