Hull KR captain Shaun Lunt and Halifax hooker Brandon Moore have been shortlisted for top awards.

The Kingstone Press Championship and League 1 award nominations were revealed this week, and former Workington Town hooker Lunt, from Cockermouth, is up for the Championship Player of the Year.

Ex-Ellenborough Rangers player Moore, from Maryport, has been named on the three man list for the Championship Young Player of the Year award.

Lunt, who has also played for Huddersfield Giants and Leeds Rhinos, is up against Toulouse's Mark Kheirallah and his Hull KR teammate Chris Atkin. London Broncos' Alex Walker and Bradford Bulls' James Bentley will compete with Moore.

Hull KR, who were relegated from Super League last season, are in pole position to return to the top division after winning all four of their games in the Qualifiers so far. Lunt has been instrumental in their success.

"I'm absolutely delighted," he told Sky Sports. "I remember when I used to play for Workington Town 12 years ago and I won Young Player of the Year but I can't remember who got Player of the Year (in 2006) but I said to myself: 'I'd love to win that one day and be crowned the best player in the Championship, not just the best young player, so to be in contention for it so many years down the line is a massive honour and I'm really pleased with it."

He added: "I've felt very happy with my form throughout the season. I've played plenty of games and plenty of minutes so it's just from the little bits of hard work and it's the fruits of that labour."

Former England Academy star Moore, who was named as Under-19s Player of the Year during his time at Castleford Tigers, has helped Halifax into the Super League Qualifiers.

The Yorkshire side finished the regular season in third, with just Lunt's Hull KR and London Broncos ahead of them.

Whitehaven player-coach Carl Forster will go head to head with Barrow Raider's Paul Crarey for the League One Coach of the Year award. York City Knights' James Ford is the other contender.

The winners will be announced at the 2017 Kingstone Press Championship and League 1 annual dinner in Manchester on Monday, September 18.
