Whitehaven's Scottish international Callum Phillips did not appear in his country's lone warm-up game ahead of the RL World Cup.
Former Seaton amateur Phillips was in the original squad for today's encounter with New South Wales Country Under-23s but had to withdraw to recover after a training ground collision.
Several other players were also kept out of the side by coach Steve McCormack, ahead of the real competition beginning a week on Sunday against Tonga, in Cairns.
But Barrow winger Shane Toal did come on off the bench for his first taste of international open age action action.
Toal has played for Scotland Under-19s previously but this will be his first World Cup.
A young Scottish side found it tough going as they went under 50-14 against a strong Country outfit at Ballina, close to their training camp at Lennox Head and Maclean, the ‘Scottish town of Australia’.
