Wath Brow Hornets are just one step away from the National Conference League Grand Final.

On Tuesday night they beat Rochdale Mayfield in a tight game at home, 24-18.

The clash was re-arranged from the weekend, when the referee called the game off due to a waterlogged pitch.

But it went ahead on Tuesday, and it was the visitors who showed their intent early, opening up an 8-0 lead thanks to a try and two goals.

Cole Walker-Taylor brought Wath Brow level when he crashed over for a try of his own and then added the conversion and a penalty goal for good measure.

Karl Dixon then added a crucial score before the break as he touched down for Brow, with Walker-Taylor on target with the extras and they held a 14-8 lead at the break.

Rochdale were out of the traps quickly after the break and went over the whitewash to come within two points of their hosts.

But then Wath Brow, led by a fine display from Jamie Devine, began to pull away.

Indiscipline in the Mayfield ranks allowed Walker-Taylor chance to slot over three penalty goals in succession.

However, the visitors settled back down and came at the Brow, determined to try and pull the deficit back.

And they managed to do so with a converted try, which left them just two points behind their hosts with 14 minutes remaining.

It was left to Gregory Howland to settle matters as he crossed for a try in the 71st minute to pull Wath Brow clear once again.

And the defence held out to clinch the win and put the Hornets just one game away from the Grand Final.

They now go to play Thatto Heath on Saturday, who were beaten 36-22 at Siddal in the qualification semi-final at the weekend.

The winner is set to face Siddal in the final.
