Wath Brow Hornets will finish in the final three of the National Conference Premier Division table if they win another local derby tomorrow.

After holding off a strong Egremont challenge on Saturday 22-16, the Hornets have another tasty contest at home to Kells.

Both teams are assured of finishing in the top six play-offs.

Win, lose or draw Kells will finish in sixth place, but victory for the Brow would lift them into third place.

Wath Brow are nine points better off than their west Cumbrian rivals at the start of play, and have already won at Kells.

It’s the only game left to play in the Premier Division ahead of the play-offs with Siddal confirmed as league winners while Pilkington Recs, Skirlaugh and Leigh Miners Rangers will be relegated.

Coming into the Premier Division in 2018 will be Hunslet Club Parkside, Underbank Rangers and Milford Marlins.

Intrestingly, Hunslet Club Parkside have reached the Challenge Trophy final and will be up against Wigan St Patrick’s tomorrow at Mount Pleasant, Batley.

St Pat’s have never operated outside the top flight in National Conference rugby since it was launched in 1986 – but they came close this year, finishing fourth bottom.

The big game in Cumberland Amateur Rugby League will be played tomorrow at Hensingham.

Distington, the 2016 Men’s League champions, take-on Seaton Rangers (kick-off 2:30pm).

Although they lost their league title to Hensingham, it could still be a big finish to the season for the Distington club.

They beat Hensingham last week in the Men’s League Grand Final, coming out on top 10-6 after an absorbing, closely-fought contest.

Then, next weekend, they meet Ellenborough in the final of the EB Lamb Amateur Cup.

In between comes tomorrow’s Cumberland Cup final when Seaton, proud winners three years ago, look to regain the silverware.

Distington have come strong at the right time of the season while Seaton haven’t had many matches of late.

It all points to a Distington win, but Seaton will be happy to be cast in the role of underdogs.
