Wath Brow won the all-West Cumbrian battle in the National Conference League premier division yesterday.

The Hornets travelled to Gillfoot Park and took the league points with a 25-0 victory.

Kells backed up their superb start with an 18-6 home win over Myton Warriors, also in the top flight.

Turning to the BARLA Cumbria Cup there was an absolute cracker played out between Hensingham and Distington.

In the end, it was 18-18 after 80 minutes and the tie went into extra time where it then finished 24-24.

Golden point was initiated and it was Hensingham who were quickest to react with a drop-goal from the boot of Steven Smith to put them into the next round.

Ulverston and Wath Brow also went to golden point as the two sides were deadlocked but it was the south of the county side who ended up going through 26-22.

Seaton also slipped out of the competition, losing 28-6 at Walney.

In the opening round of the Cumberland League, Aspatria edged out Lowca 22-16 and Egremont travelled to Flimby and won a tight match 20-18.

But the biggest blow came with the news that Maryport will not be running a team this season due to a lack of players.
