In the North Lancs/Cumbria league, Wigton travel to face St Benedict’s in a crucial derby clash.

Saints’ have only been beaten once so far this season as they lost to Oldham at the start of October but they are currently on a run of three-straight wins.

Wigton have won back to back games for the first time since April 2014, and will be looking to make it three on the bounce as they travel to Newlands.

“It’s another big game for us and another derby,” Wigton head coach Mark Lee, pictured, said. “St Benedict’s are the best team in the league and it will be a real test for us.

“They are really difficult to beat at Newlands and they should be proud of their record at home.

“They have some experienced county players too and that counts for a lot.

“We’ll certainly give it a very good shot, and we’re going with an experienced side.

“Our away victory against Hawcoat Park will give the players a lot of confidence.”

Lee admitted he has a selection dilemma ahead of this weekend’s game after seeing unprecedented numbers in training this week.

“I think we’re reaping the benefits of the Rugby World Cup,” he continued. “We had two full packs at training this week for the first time in a while so we could practice some live scrummaging.

“The second team had 24 players training too so there are some decisions to be made. It’s a great headache to have.”

Aspatria head coach Mike Scott wants to see a response from his players in this weekend’s game at Upper Eden.

The Black Reds lost just their second game of the season a fortnight ago as they were beaten 30-20 by league leaders St Benedict’s.

“The pressure was on a fortnight ago and we were found a bit wanting,” Scott admitted.

“We gave them three tries through poor defence and you cant give the top teams opportunities like that or you find yourself playing catch-up.

“Numbers in training have been great and a lot of people have put their hands up to play this weekend.

“We have a great record away from home this season. We’ve lost two games at home but we are unbeaten on the road and long may that continue.”

Silloth are fourth from bottom and have three more points in the league table than this weekend’s opponents.
