Muscle op puts an early end to King’s season

WORKINGTON TOWN hooker Darren King is out for the rest of the season after a shoulder operation.
King, 26, had the operation to re-attach a bicep muscle last Wednesday after carrying the injury for three games at the end of last season.
He said: “It’s really frustrating. Now that I know what it is, I could have had it seen to at the end of last season and I would have been almost ready to play now.
“I played against Haven in the Ike Southward Memorial game at Christmas and was feeling good, but I went in to tackle Marc Jackson and I just felt it give way.”
But good news for Town is that Rob Lunt, who was carried off in the closing stages Sunday’s 28-26 defeat at Gateshead Thunder, is hoping to play some part in the NL2 clash with Rochdale Hornets on Sunday (Derwent Park 3pm ko).
It was feared that Lunt had damaged ankle ligaments but has said that it’s not as bad as first feared.
Second-rower Ryan Campbell, who picked up a rib injury during the Good Friday clash with Barrow Raiders, is expected to return to the fray on Sunday.
But Neil Frazer, Garry Purdham and Jay Duffy all remain on the injury list.
