Old pals meet up for Town game

A WORKINGTON man will be hoping to put one over on an old club colleague on Sunday.
Neil Robinson is an associate director and ground safety officer for Blackpool Panthers who host Workington Town at the Woodlands.
Back in the 1990s he worked closely with Town coach Dave Rotheram when the pair were attached to the London club and the pair speak regularly by phone.
Robinson said: “We’ve been talking every day this week in the build up to the match and we have a side bet on the result. The loser will buy the other a pint after the game.
“I’ve reminded him that Town are only one of two clubs - Keighley is the other - to have lost at Fylde.”
Like Town, the Panthers are looking for their first win of the season as both clubs have lost all their Northern Rail Cup and National Two matches. In fact Blackpool went through last season without winning a game.
A former sergeant in the Metropolitan police, and also in charge of security at Lord’s cricket ground during his time in London, Robinson move to Blackpool when he retired.
He said: “When the Fulham club was on the go I was match-day co-ordinator and secretary while Dave was a player.
“He was an assistant coach with the London Broncos when I left and then moved on to St Helens.
“We have kept in touch ever since and I’ve followed his career with interest. I’m looking forward to meeting-up with him on Sunday,”
Robinson, who also edits the Blackpool match programme, is a keen Workington Reds fan and regularly travels the country watching them in action. He will be at Hyde tomorrow.
