Scottish international Callum Phillips will hit a century for Workington Town this afternoon when he runs out onto the Derwent Park pitch.

Phillips will make his 100th appearance for his hometown club against Gloucestershire All Golds in the iPro Sports League 1 Cup, ko 2.30pm.

The hooker/half-back has been pivotal to the side for the past couple of seasons and also made his mark on the international scene, featuring for Scotland in last year's Four Nations.

Town chairman Garry Mounsey said he was delighted to see the former Seaton amateur reach the milestone.

"Since signing from Seaton in 2012, Callum has been a mainstay here at Workington," he said.

"His creativity and skills would make him a real asset to any team so I’m extremely happy that he will play 100 games for Workington Town.

"To also see him playing for his country has been a real bonus and makes all of us involved with the club very proud.

"All involved at the club would like to congratulate Callum on reaching this significant milestone."

Another boost for Town is the form of half-back and captain Carl Forber, who is racking up the points.

Forber is currently second in the League 1 points scoring and goal scoring charts, behind Toronto's Craig Hall.

He added a try and nine goals to his tally last weekend against the All Golds, which saw him leap up the leaderboard.

He now has 34 points and 15 goals this season, although Hall will be hard to catch with 22 goals to his name and 60 points so far this term.

"I've been in and around Carl for some time and he has always had the ability," said Town's director of rugby Les Ashe.

"You need a good run in the side and to feel good about yourself and get consistent and Carl is one of several lads that have done that this year.

"We are all delighted at the way he and others have taken to their responsibilities this season."

Joe Hambley is also standing out for his try scoring abilities, as the three-quarter has bagged touchdowns in each of his last five games.

Ashe added: "I am so pleased for Joe because he has played in the professional ranks before and for whatever reason that didn't work out.

"But he has got another opportunity here and he has grasped it with both hands.

"And his ability on the field is just reward, he never misses training and is a big unit who will only get better."
