Captain Jason Mossop believes Workington Town need to up their game against the League One heavyweights, despite beating Gloucestershire All Golds by more than 30 points on Sunday.

Town got their second win of the season against the All Golds at Derwent Park, with Mossop scoring his first try of the campaign.

But the visitors took the lead despite an early injury blow, then pegged Town back late in the game before the hosts went up a gear.

Mossop said: “It was a tough game. They’ve got a couple of good players but we didn’t help ourselves.

“We started a bit slowly and let them get into the game, which built their confidence and we ran away with it in the end. But we didn’t really stick to the game plan.

“We let ourselves down in patches and the better teams in the division will punish us if we play like that but hopefully we can perform like we did in the last 20 minutes.”

Despite making hard work of Sunday’s win, Mossop believes Town are on the right track and that the early season inconsistency will work its way out with game time.

And he is eyeing cup progression this weekend, when Town again face the All Golds in an iPro Cup quarter-final tie.
