Director of rugby Les Ashe hopes back-to-back wins can spur Workington Town on to take maximum points from a crucial run of fixtures.
Town’s 56-0 win against South Wales Ironmen followed a 66-18 win at Hemel and Ashe believes winning can breed confidence as they look to cement their position in the top eight in the next three games.
“I’d like to congratulate the team and coaching staff on the back-to-back wins,” Ashe said.
“There looks to be good camaraderie in the group because every time we scored there were pats on the back and handshakes.
“Equally, when we did something good at the back players were praising each other which can only be a good thing when we come up against teams who are a little bit more difficult.
“Fundamentally, this run of five games was always going to be critical and we’ve won the first two.”
Ashe said the team had reacted well to the disappointment of conceding three tries at Hemel.
“To nil a team in any league is an achievement,” he added.
“I think they worked really hard on their goal line defence through the week and it showed.
“Conceding three against Hemel disappointed the group, so the defence was the most pleasing thing.”
